The Castle
On our first morning in Alanya, Prof. Redford got us up at 9 am to climb the castle, and see the town. It's divided by a huge rocky peninsula that we live on. At the tip of the peninsula, is a large area walled off by the Seljuks, in the ruins of which many villas were build by Ottoman princes in the 18th and 19th century. One is our school. Here's a gate to get in to the castle walls. Theres also a more used tunnel for tour buses that's not as pretty. We had to climb down the walls to the Red Tower that is the symbol of Alanya. Check the video to see a panorama of the west half of the penisula.
